Hi,

How are you? No, really. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Burnt out by the constant comms industry whiplash — where one minute you’re told your work deeply matters, and the next, someone’s declaring that AI is coming for your job?

Same.

Here are a few paradoxical “insights” I’ve seen lately that sent me into a low-key spiral:

  • Leverage AI to be more efficient, but make sure your comms feel human and authentic.
  • Make your messages short and scannable, but also tactical, thoughtful, and deeply meaningful.
  • Be a strategic advisor, but drop everything for that last-minute CEO email request.
  • Use a multichannel approach, but don’t overwhelm people with too many messages.
  • Track your metrics and prove your value, but also accept that some important things can’t be measured.

*Cue panic attack*

No wonder we’re all feeling stretched thin. The expectations are contradictory and often unrealistic.

Here’s a truth bomb for you: IC isn’t broken. The way we talk about it is.

We’re not just “sending stuff.” We’re influencing culture. Shaping clarity. Guiding people through chaos. And if we don’t start owning the full scope of our impact, no one else will.

So take a deep breath. You earned this scroll. I’ve got some tips and tools below that I hope will steady your footing.

What if AI isn’t scary, it’s just…misunderstood?

There’s a lot of chatter right now about AI taking over everything (including our jobs), but I’m choosing curiosity over panic. What if AI isn’t the enemy of authenticity but a tool that helps internal comms shine even brighter?

That’s why I’m hyped for Simpplr’s own AI & EX Virtual Summit on September 10.

It’s a half-day of honest, practical convos about how AI can help us elevate the employee experience without losing our human touch. You’ll hear from industry experts with different perspectives on AI, learn from IC pros who have mastered the art of the prompt, and walk away with practical ways to bring AI into your workflow — without losing your voice, your values, or your mind.

Come for the real talk. Leave with real momentum. Did I mention it’s FREE?! So, see you there?

2025 trends, tools, and truth bombs

Simpplr’s 2025 State of Internal Communications and Intranet Technology report is here and it’s a banger.

IC has earned a seat at the table at many orgs. (YAY!) But the data shows a massive performance gap between companies with strategic intranet platforms and those still duct-taping multiple tools together. (OOF.)

The proof is in the pudding: Organizations with modern EX platforms see higher engagement, productivity, and even increased revenue. So the next time someone questions the value of IC or whether it’s time to ditch the duct tape, show them this.

Klepto-worthy real-life intranet inspo

ICYMI, before I joined Simpplr, I was a customer! I had the honor of being one of the winners of Intranet Superstars: Best of Simpplr 2024. And this year, I got to turn the tables and step in as a judge for the rebranded contest, 2025 Simpplr Employee Experience Excellence Awards.

That means I’ve seen some of the most creative, thoughtful intranet designs out there. Yes, I took notes. From bold branding and clever naming to employee-driven storytelling, I still geek out over it all. And I hope you will too.

This blog is packed with creative ideas and the kind of content that’ll have you thinking, “Yep, stealing that.” No judgment here — swipe what sparks inspiration. Make it your own. And don’t forget to track the impact of your changes.

Quick tip

No more grocery-list-style report outs

“We sent three newsletters last month.”
“We published five new intranet pages last week.”
“We had 527 views for the CEO update.”

K. So what?

Next time someone asks you what you’ve been working on, skip the grocery list of content. Instead, talk about what changed because of it. Did awareness improve? Did people do the thing you were prompting them to do?

When you frame your impact like this, you’re not just a doer — you’re a driver. Here’s how you can do it better.

We sent three newsletters.
→ We launched a new R&D newsletter that’s holding steady at a 23% CTR. Our latest pulse survey shows a 30% increase in awareness and understanding of the team’s priorities and goals.

We updated the homepage five times.
→ We’ve been updating the homepage twice a week, and since doing so, we’ve seen a 17% lift in return visits and higher engagement with time-sensitive campaigns.

We published 12 intranet stories this month.
→ By partnering with stakeholders to elevate employee voices, we published 12 stories that sparked conversation across teams — including a 3x boost in comments and reactions.

See how different that feels? Yes, you may need to dig a little deeper and think creatively, but this shows how you’re really moving the needle. This is how we change the IC perception and own our impact.

Quick move

Not sure how to start building metrics that matter? Add in a Sentiment Check (a part of the Simpplr platform) or a question at the end of an article to gauge how employees are feeling or to elicit a comment or response. Two-way conversations make all the difference.

Plot twist: You’re actually crushing it

If you’ve been feeling the whiplash of conflicting comms advice, you’re not alone. Let this be your reminder: IC. IS. NOT. BROKEN. But let’s do ourselves a favor and do a better job talking about the value we bring.

So the next time you’re having an existential “what even is my job?” moment, remember: You’re a gem. You’re crushing comms. You’re building bridges. You’re a pseudo-therapist with a knack for strategy and storytelling who moonlights as a graphic designer.

Just don’t sell yourself short. Use these insights, ideas, and inspo to level up your reporting game and show the impact you’re making. It matters.

Keep on keepin’ on, sunshine.

And hey — if this hits home, hit reply or DM me on LinkedIn. IC/EX folks are my kind of people, and I’d love to know what you’re up to.
