Your IT team approves your tools, responds to tickets, and says yes to most requests. On the surface, everything works. But in the background shadow platforms, missed opportunities, and hidden security risks are signalling invisible misalignment.
The data paints a clearer picture: 48% of IC budgets are controlled by IT, who are largely satisfied with their current intranet (92%), yet non-IT departments are nearly twice as likely (50% vs 28%) to want to switch to all-in-one platforms from custom intranets.

Randall Kerr lives in Houston, Texas and serves as Senior Director of Solutions Architecture and Security with Simpplr. He has a B.A. degree in Economics, and more than 35 years of experience as a technical engineer and thought leader in numerous business capacities. Prior to joining Simpplr, Randall spent many years with Oracle in technical pre-sales engineering. Later, he served as Director of Products for Digi International, leading a $100M business division encompassing all cellular router hardware product lines, while simultaneously serving as Director of Sales Engineering. Randall is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Portuguese, French, and German. Linguistic skills have been invaluable to Randall’s career success, and his latest language pursuit is Japanese.
Rachel Tolhurst
Communications & Marketing Lead at Simpplr
Rachel is an award-winning communicator with experience across financial and infrastructure services, aviation, healthcare, satcomms and agency. She joined Simpplr in March 2025 as an internal communications expert, developing thought leadership content and building Simpplr’s UK and EMEA presence through events, webinars and strategic partnerships with industry bodies.
She hosts breakfast roundtables and presents at conferences and summits, bringing together IC, HR and IT practitioners to explore topics such as AI adoption, employee listening and measurement.
