Simpplr scored highest in 5 of 6 use cases among 15 vendors
Simpplr was recently named a Leader in the prestigious 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Intranet Packaged Solutions. We ranked highest in the Ability to Execute and furthest in Completeness of Vision. While the Magic Quadrant report provides a graphical representation of how vendors are positioned based on two key criteria, the Critical Capabilities research focuses on the specific features and functions and how each vendor aligns against what Gartner perceives as critical requirements and capabilities.
The Gartner Critical Capabilities report scored intranet packaged solution (IPS) vendors for the following use cases:
- Employee Communications and Engagement
- Employee Services
- Knowledge Services
- Work Management
- Frontline Worker Support
- Application Portals
The product/service scores in the table below summarize how well the critical capabilities are met for each use case. We’re thrilled that Simpplr scored the highest in 5 of 6 use cases:
“Intranet packaged solutions often look the same, but different capabilities make some more fitting to your requirements and use cases than others,” the Gartner Critical Capabilities report states. “Application leaders driving intranet efforts should use this research to find the IPS vendors that best fit their use cases.”
What sets Simpplr apart from the competition?
We believe it’s our focus on unifying employee engagement, enablement and services, leveraging state-of-the-art AI models to deliver a seamless, cohesive and personalized employee experience.
According to the report:
“Simpplr is well-equipped to support all six of the intranet use cases in this report. Its out-of- the box analytics are rich, well-aligned with intranet goals, and capable of capturing in-the- moment employee sentiment.
While AI is still emerging for many IPS competitors, Simpplr offers fully functional and integrated AI applied to a wide range of functions. For example, Simpplr uses AI to boost analytics and personalization, learning employee preferences and analyzing intranet activity to deliver insights, recommendations, and predictions to intranet managers and end users. AI-powered content moderation helps to ensure compliance and content hygiene by employing autolabeling, tagging and categorization.
Simpplr also scores highly for employee communications, enabling communicators to plan, create, coordinate, customize, distribute, execute and measure the effectiveness of communication campaigns.”
Simpplr scored highest for Employee Communications and Engagement Use Cases
For this use case, Gartner scored IPS vendors for their ability to “provide interaction to and between employees to shape culture, build community, attract and retain talent, and foster productivity.” Simpplr’s product and vision align well with Gartner’s perspective of how the modern intranet should address use cases beyond communications, including employee engagement.
At its core, the Simpplr platform connects people to strengthen camaraderie and uses AI to recommend personalized news, critical knowledge, and stories to employees — wherever and however they work. Simpplr’s platform streamlines top-down communications that help shape company culture, organizes spaces of interest to build community, promotes peer-to-peer and employee recognition to boost morale, and deploys different modes of surveys to actively listen to employees and course-correct in real-time.
Simpplr’s award-winning user experience helps foster high levels of employee engagement, 5x above industry standard. Gartner reports, “Simpplr customers show greater awareness and adoption of product capabilities than customers of many other competing solutions.”

Simpplr scored highest for the Employee Services Use Case
Gartner describes the Employee Services use case as a way to “serve and satisfy employees, and make them aware of policies and procedures, through business and IT service and self-service. Reduce employee support costs while improving efficiency.”
Simpplr scored 3.65 out of 5, surpassing other vendors in effectively providing employee self-service. Simpplr’s platform integrates business and IT services to streamline business processes and workflows — ultimately boosting employee productivity and reducing support costs. Simpplr’s virtual assistant integrates enterprise systems to help employees access knowledge, manage incidents, support Q&A, and deliver personalized answers in one conversational interface.
Simpplr scored highest for the Knowledge Services Use Case
For this use case, Gartner scored IPS vendors for their ability to “allow employees to find expertise and applicable content through improved expertise identification, knowledge capture, access and transfer.”
Simpplr integrates the most popular enterprise applications — from HRIS applications such as Workday, UKG and BambooHR to content management systems like Box, Google and SharePoint, and even to productivity applications like ServiceNow — all of which are discoverable in our AI-powered smart search that federates search results.
Our hybrid neural search supports native content, uploaded and integrated files, video files with transcriptions, supporting and ticketing solutions, and enterprise search to establish Simpplr as the single source of truth. The first Auto-Governance Engine™ in the industry maintains content relevance by automatically culling stale content while keeping the rest of the intranet fresh.
Simpplr scored highest for the Work Management Use Case
For this use case, Gartner scored IPS providers for their ability to “provide employees with task-driven hubs and dashboards to guide their work activity and inform their decisions.”
Frontline workers have unique needs — from onboarding to day-to-day tasks and queries. Simpplr integrates with productivity apps, such as ServiceNow, and unifies notifications so employees can access tasks, must-reads and critical alerts in Simpplr’s mobile app. Simpplr’s virtual assistant provides employees with a single destination to process approvals, retrieve immediate answers to questions, and engage in employee surveys.
Because of Simpplr’s purpose-built and inclusive approach, Gartner states in the Magic Quadrant report that “Simpplr is reported to be adopted more frequently than most other providers across office and frontline worker use cases.”
Simpplr scored highest for the Frontline Worker Support Use Case
For this use case, Gartner scored IPS vendors for their ability to “provide intranet communications and services to service workers (who primarily spend their time performing client-facing activities) or task workers (who primarily spend their time performing operational activities in the field, in warehouses, plant floors, or other ‘deskless’ environments).”
Simpplr’s approach to work management extends to the frontline workers, offering them as much support as desk workers, all in one mobile app — making the digital workplace experience accessible to all types of employees.
Each employee gets a personalized home dashboard within the app, including relevant top-down communication and announcements, must-reads, built-in onboarding workflows, a social feed and federated search. Historically, engaging and listening to the frontline was unaddressed. However, Simpplr’s Employee Listening reaches the frontline to help improve compliance, assess employee sentiment, and deploy employee engagement surveys. Simpplr also offers a multitude of employee experience touchpoints, including digital displays, newsletters via email and SMS, and more.
